Nokia Opponent iPhone with Linux

Nokia Oyj will rely on Linux software MeeGo in N-Series devices that are expected to give a better chance against Apple and Google.

N-series is the Nokia flagship device for a few years dominate the smartphone market before the emergence of Apple's iPhone in 2007.

New Nokia smartphones, N8 will be the last N-series phones that use Symbian software. Symbian system has become a leader in the smartphone market but has lost share in recent years since the iPhone's presence.

"For the future, devices will be N-series based on MeeGo," said a spokeswoman for Motorola, Dawson Doug.

Nokia and Intel Corp. in February and plans to make MeeGo mengumuman, collaboration software platform from Nokia with the Maemo Linux on Intel's Moblin which is also based on open-source Linux software.

"Confirmation that MeeGo will be used on the next N-series devices shows that Nokia is making a bet to beat their competitors such as Apple's iPhone," said Ben Wood, director of research at British consultancy, CCS Insight.

Another version of the Linux operating system also includes Google's Android.

In the first quarter, total Linux phone market share has increased from 8.5% to 14% compared to last year, according to data from Gartner.

Linux computer operating system is an open-source the most popular. They compete with Microsoft is marketing the device against the codes of Windows and Linux for free.
