Android HP 160 Thousand Sold Every Day

By the launch of iPhone competitor, the Internet giant Google announced more than 160,000 phones that support the Android operating system sold each day.

Google chief executive Eric Schmidt speaks with CNBC television network during the inauguration of the new Android phone from Motorola Droid X.

"Everyone is fixated on the mobile device at any time, any day, unless they're sleeping," said Schmidt.

"Everything is moving to mobile and we participate in it.

"We have more than 160,000 shipments globally every day," said Schmdit. "Momentum was phenomenal."

New month ago, at the annual meeting of shareholders of Google, Schmidt said at least 65 000 reinforced Android phones shipped every day.

Google makes the Android software available for handset manufacturers and also sells their own smartphone, Nexus One.

Spectacular sales figures quoted by Schmidt could be Android handset will far exceed that Apple recorded sales of 8.75 million iPhones last quarter.

According to industry research firm NPD, sales of smartphones that are running Android in the U.S. really surged in the first quarter of this year.

Android-powered smartphone share of 28 percent of U.S. consumer sales compared with 21 percent for the iPhone, NPD said.

Popular BlackBerry maker Research in Motion of Canada to maintain a top position with 36 percent of U.S. smartphone sales for the first quarter.

Apple has sold more than 50 million iPhones since launch touchscreen smartphone in 2007.

IPhone latest model, the iPhone went on sale on Thursday 4 in England, France, Germany, Japan and the United States.
